WHAT IS NOSE AESTHETIC (RHINOPLASTY)?

There are some ratios and angles of the face itself. If these ratios and angles have changed due to the reasons related to the nose, the person may have a tougher and angrier facial expression as well as the nose may compromise the beauty of eyes and lips. The operations performed for reforming these ratios are called as nose aesthetic operations.

IS THE NOSE OPERATION SAME FOR EVERYONE?

When we consider the facial structure, characteristics of the nose, and the expectations of the patient, we can understand that every operation to be done is different and personal. If the appropriate planning is made before the operation, the resulting nose won’t be a nose in which the nostrils are seen when looked from the front side, a very excessively lifted nose, a nose which looks like it was cut or compressed by a peg, or a nose which is very evident that it has undergone an aesthetic operation; all of which are funny noses without any relation with aesthetics. Here, the important thing is the aesthetic comprehension and ability of the surgeon. The surgeon can save the patient from having the same operation many times. So, both the surgeon and the patient are pleased.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PREDICT HOW THE NOSE WILL BE FOLLOWING THE OPERATION?

By evaluating the photographs of the patient taken from the frontside and the lateral sides, we can predict especially the profile views with almost 100% confidence. However, it should be noted that every move made on a computer may not have an equivalent in the aesthetic surgical operation. So, only the changes that are surgically possible should be shown on the computer not to meet any surprises after the operation. In this stage, the only determinants are patient-doctor relationship and confidence.

CAN BREATHING PROBLEMS BE MANAGED SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE NOSE AESTHETIC OPERATIONS?

Problems like septum deviation (the disorder that causes breathing problems and inclination in the nose), different breathing problems and deformities due to previous trauma, and chonchal hypertrophy (nose meat) can be eliminated in the same session. In this way, while having an aesthetic and natural nose harmonious to the face, breathing problems, frequent pharyngeal infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, etc.), dry mouth and sore throat especially evident in the morning, loud breathing, snoring and headache are also eliminated.

IS THERE SOMETHING AS NOSE DROP OR NOSE DEPRESSION AFTER NOSE AESTHETIC OPERATIONS?

These forementioned situations are not usual consequences of nose aesthetic operations. If the problems of the patient are determined well, a good planning is made, and the operation is performed successfully, then these situations are not encountered in contrast to the common belief. If importance is not given to those parameters, the patient may have to undergo many nose operations.

IS IT NECESSARY TO USE NOSE PLASTER AFTER THE NOSE SURGERY; AND IF USED, HOW LONG WILL IT STAY?

Generally, it is necessary to use nose plaster after the nose surgery and it stays approximately one week. Sometimes the appearance of the nose can be corrected through small retouches, and these types of nose operations may only require bandage instead of a plaster.

IS IT PAINFUL TO REMOVE THE TAMPON FROM THE NOSE?

At first, very long tampons were placed in the nose, so the patient naturally experienced pain. Nowadays, the applications making the patient uncomfortable have been given up, unless necessary. That’s why, now the tampons used are 2 – 3 cm long and they are easy to remove even with sneezing. The tampon is removed in 1 – 2 days after the operation and it does not bother the patient.

DOES THE TISSUE AROUND THE EYE BECOMES PURPLE AFTER NOSE OPERATIONS AND IS IT PAINFUL?

Formerly, in the classical nose operations, if the bone of the nose is affected, bruising and swelling were frequently encountered. Because nowadays a solution containing pain killers and substances which decrease bleeding is applied to the nose area during the operation, postoperative pain is prevented, and the bruising and swelling is minimalized.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF PATIENT – AESTHETIC SURGEON DIALOGUE IN NOSE AESTHETIC OPERATIONS?

The planning phase of the operatşon is completely personal and it is directly related to the aesthetic vision and appreciation of the surgeon. Aesthetic vision is a parameter that complements knowledge and experience, an it is a must. If the patient and the doctor have similar concerns and aesthetic appreciation, it is highly possible to have a good result. Without this accordance is met and before an analysis of the expectations and the concerns of the patient is made, the operation will naturally cause some surprises. Also, it is not right to exemplify the nose of a person who had an operation before and request the same nose. Because that nose is the nose which will suit on that person; the form of the nose to suit on everyone is unique. Anyway, the important thing here is to determine the natural and beautiful nose type which will suit on the person’s face and will not manifest itself as operated. For example; if a nose type which is nice on someone is applied to hundreds of people as serial manufacturing, the same nose will look funny on someone, ordinary on another, or fabuluous on the other, because many factors as the figure of the face and the bone construction of the person will affect the result. That’s why, not only the occupational skills but also the aesthetic vision are important is necessary for a successful operation.
